Geodesic Snow Globe

Collaboration with 100 Architects and Dogma Labs

· Interactive

A twenty meter tall Christmas Snow Globe installation in the heart of Shanghai in XinTianDi mall. Squiggle Labs helped with the design, layout, material and technology selection for this cool project.

The space had two different "looks;" during the day the globe would almost disappear and the geometric Christmas tree - made out of dichroic acrylic - would sparkle in the sunlight. The unique coating on the acrylic bends the light waves in different ways showing different colors depending on where its viewed from.

Inside, visitors could see a kaleidoscope-like reflections from inside the tree, based on our experimentation on the Voronoi Lamp project.

During dusk the scene would transition from reflecting and redirecting sunlight to emanating light on its own.

At night, the whole globe would come alive with color and motion. Read more about this project on the 100 Architect's website.
